We offer specialised and personalised treatments for various different gallbladder related conditions/problems.
Gallstone disease is one of the most common causes of upper abdominal pain. Gallstones are small pieces of concentrated bile materials, such as cholesterol and bilirubin, that collect at the bottom of the gall bladder. It is often characterized by symptoms including colicky abdominal pain, inflammation of the gallbladder, infection of the bile duct, and severe inflammation of the pancreas.
Biliary colic occurs when a gallstone blocks the outlet of the gallbladder. It is characterized by intermittent pain on the right/upper abdomen, that can radiate to the right shoulder or become constant when the stones block the gallbladder canals. In some cases, the pain may disappear as the stone falls back into the gallbladder and reoccur with another blockage situation.
Gallbladder polyps are abnormal growths that develop in the inner lining of the gallbladder. Although often harmless, gallbladder polyps indicate the presence of other gallbladder problems and, in rare cases, are cancerous. They can be of different types depending on the material they are made of, namely, pseudopolyps (cholesterol), inflammatory polyps (scar tissue), etc.
Acute cholecystitis is a condition that occurs when a gallstone blocks the canal from where bile exits the gallbladder. It is characterized by a sudden, intense pain over the right upper abdomen. If not taken care of early on, the blockage can cause further complications such as a buildup of bile, leading to infections and pus/abscess formation in the gallbladder.
Perforated cholecystitis is a severe form of acute cholecystitis when it is not identified and treated early. When the gallbladder becomes swollen, the blood supply to the gallbladder gets cut off, turning it gangrenous. The gallbladder wall then bursts due to the build-up of fluid and pressure within it, and the bile escapes from the gallbladder into the abdominal cavity.
Acute or Gallstone pancreatitis is one of the most common type of pancreatitis. This occurs when the gallstone drops further down into the bile duct, compressing the pancreatic duct that shares a common channel with the bile duct. Acute pancreatitis is often characterized by pain, usually centrally located at the upper abdomen, along with signs and symptoms of acute cholangitis.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ on the right side of the abdomen, just under the liver. It stores bile, a digestive fluid that helps break down fats.
Gallbladder problems such as gallstones, inflammation, infection, or cancer can cause pain, nausea, and other digestive symptoms. In these cases, removing the gallbladder may be necessary.
